Meet Julia

Julia: Mistress to the Cardinal
LIKES:

Spending time with her ladies, flirting, target practice at the firing range and getting what she wants

DISLIKES:

Being mocked and the feeling that she is being used

ABOUT JULIA:

"Nothing makes me happier than being loved and I have so many delightful men-friends but secretly, it saddens me that none of them really love me. I'm always on the look-out for Mr Right. I do love to know what's going on, but I'm not great at keeping secrets and I fear that may be my downfall."
FAVOURITE JULIA QUOTES:

"The only remedy to do me good is to kill my longing"
"What an excellent shape hath that fellow"

Meet Cariola

Cariola: Lady-in-Waiting to the Duchess
LIKES:

Children, religion, her friends and family

DISLIKES:

Bosola, Ferdinand

ABOUT CARIOLA:

Cariola is devoted to the Duchess and as well as being her servant, they are very good friends. She is not afraid to speak her mind about things that are important to her. She is clever and aware of intrigue and plotting going on in the court.Cariola is feisty and has awareness of the duchess' vulnerability and she knows when to keep her own mouth shut.
FAVOURITE CARIOLA QUOTE:

"Both shall be safe; For I'll conceal this secret form the world  As warily as those that trade in poison keep poison from their children"

Meet Delio

Delio: Man About Court
LIKES:

His friends; loyalty; integrity

DISLIKES:

Insincerity; cruelty; scheming; fame for fame's sake - very possibly also apricots.

ABOUT DELIO:

Delio is Antonio's right-hand man and very likely his best friend, although he would not wish to presume such.  He is astute, even wise, preferring to see things as they are, and make the best of them, than risking self-delusion.  He does not seek self-promotion, rather the success, even happiness, of those he is close to - he would prefer not to involve himself in scheming, but is level-headed enough to know that this is sometimes required to deal with the schemes of others.  He believes firmly in integrity and that this, above all, outlives all fame.  He is not a hypocrite.

FAVOURITE DELIO QUOTE:

"I have ever thought nature doth nothing so great for great men as when she's pleased to make them lords of truth: integrity of life is fame's best friend, which nobly, beyond death, shall crown the end"…

Meet Silvio

Silvio: Chief of Staff in the Court of Malfi

LIKES:

Money, hard liquor, ‘duckin’ and divin’ - wheeling/deeling’, likes to turn a trick. Eavesdropping.

DISLIKES:

Ferdinand (but understands his worth), mundane tasks - photography for example - given by Ferdinand, impropriety, being treated like a servant

ABOUT SILVIO:

"Don’t underestimate me, I may say little but I observe much. Ferdinand and the Cardinal may have the power and status but I’ve got the knowledge. Independent, intelligent, I look out for myself. Some may call me Machiavellian, but at the end of the day (play!) I’m still standing."

FAVOURITE SILVIO QUOTE:

‘That cardinal...He lifts up ‘s nose, like a foul porpoise before a storm.’
