“Now it’s all chippety-choppety you can’t make sense of it.”

When Lyuba Ranyevskaya’s husband dies of champagne, she runs away with a lover to a dissolute life in the South of France. After five years she is summoned back to the family estate by her ineffectual brother. The estate including its vast and magical cherry orchard is about to be sold.

Set in rural Russia in 1904 The Cherry Orchard is about an all-too-human family and its eccentric entourage that has lived beyond its means and must now face a more sober austerity. It’s a timeless classic.

Five years after her sell out production of Three Sisters at York Theatre Royal Studio, director Helen Wilson returns to direct her beloved Chekhov for YSCP once again. This is a rare chance to see some of Chekhov’s most extraordinary characters in the intimacy of Friargate Theatre.

September 24th – 26th: 7.30pm
plus 2.30pm matinee on the 26th and 27th.

Tickets: £10

16 Jul SEEKING DEPUTY SM FOR THE CHERRY ORCHARD

Helen Wilson director of “The Cherry Orchard ” writes :

We are about to start on the main body of rehearsals for Chekhov’s masterpiece . We have a great team and feel excited about this theatrical adventure. The only thing that is missing is a deputy stage manager. I need someone reliable (though not necessarily experienced) who can be “on the book “. Availability between 16th August and performance dates (24th -27th September) is important. Please contact me for more details………..

REVIEWS:

NOUSE Four Stars ****

“High quality drama with the team bringing new life to an all-but-forgotten work.”

Charles Hutchinson – York Press
”Drums is more entertaining than you might expect, as rowdy as a Joe Orton comedy, its behaviour lubricated by liberal consumption of kirsch and schnapps….. Morley’s ensemble company gives it both barrels.”

Audience reactions:

”Truly remarkable, passionate, performances by all the cast.”

”Great performance of ‘Drums in the Night’ ….a brave tackling of a complex play.”

”Thoroughly enjoyed it.”

”Utterly compelling.”
